Container Loading & Logistics Guide

Technical guide for container loading, shipping logistics, and cold chain management.

For: Logistics managers, import coordinators, warehouse managers

Container Types and Specifications

20ft Reefer: ~20-22 MT capacity, good for smaller orders

40ft Reefer: ~25-27 MT capacity, most cost-effective

40ft High Cube Reefer: ~27-29 MT, extra height for palletized cargo

Temperature range: -25°C to +25°C

Standard pallet positions: 20 (40ft) or 10 (20ft)

Loading Patterns and Optimization

Floor-loaded: Maximum capacity, requires manual unloading

Palletized: Easier handling, slightly less capacity

Slip-sheet: Compromise between capacity and handling

Allow for air circulation around cargo

Don't block reefer unit airflow

Secure cargo to prevent shifting

Temperature Management

Pre-cool container before loading

Load only fully frozen product (-18°C or below)

Set reefer to -20°C for transit (allowing for fluctuation)

Use supply air or return air temperature setting as appropriate

Install temperature recorders for monitoring

Document temperature at loading and unloading
